Montessori Inspired Activities for Toddlers #1 | Introducing Colours

the mommy blog

Yesterday, kids got up a bit early and I haven’t had a single ‘goodnight’ in the past few weeks (that’s a different story though). So  since everyone was up, I thought of making something colourful for the Little Thing, who is not yet familiar with colours other than Orange and Green.

This activity will helped my child in ‘matching’ the colours. I didn’t want to rush things up and confuse her. So as of yesterday, it was only matching the colours for her. May be in the coming weeks we can learn their names too. 🙂

So if you want to make this activity for your child, you’ll need the following things:

  1. Foam sheets in colours of your choice
  2. Cardboard sheet ( I upcycled an old carton)
  3. 1 Colour paper.
  4. Scissors
  5. Markers
  6. Glue stick

the mommy blog

All I did was I cut out a large piece of cardboard and wrapped it with a coloured paper, so that it looks neat ( You can totally skip this part, if you have no time).

And then glued, foam pieces on to the card stock. Remember you will need two pieces in the each colour, for your child to match them with one another. And that’s about it.

Initially, I put the pieces beside and asked her what she wanted to do with them. She twisted and turned the pieces and pulled them apart. My fault, I shouldn’t have asked her that in the first place. Hehe.

I then told her to match the colours and she did it in no time. MashaAllah.

Fun Fact:  The Little Thing is this type of a child, she knows what a Popsicle stick is and never forgets to asks for it when she wants to play with them. But when I ask her the colour of the sky, she instantly says green! LOL Now you know her personality. Her major source of learning is her big sister.

This is how it looked once she finished it. It’s easy, inexpensive and fun. I hope you’ll give it a try.

Please comment below and let me know how you like it. So that’s all for today. Stay tuned because I have loads of fun activities coming up.

Happy Homeschooling Momma!

Lovely Board-Books Gift Pack Review

I clearly remember the evening when a heavy looking package arrived at our door. I knew there had to be something new and ‘lovely’ in there for both of my girls. I was so humbled seeing this lovely little collection of board-books that were so colourful and beautifully arranged keeping in mind their little readers.

This set of books is by the Dreamland Publications. The ten mini books came in a shiny-red pack which had the books neatly tucked on the inside of it. At the very first sight, the Big Thing was pleasantly surprised to have them. You know she L.O.V.E.S books? But so many books at one time, was too over-whelming for her. And of course The Little Thing just kept jumping and jumping! She couldn’t run and hug them all like her sister anyway!

These books are actually miniatures of all those list of things your child should learn at her own pace of course. Each book has about 12-13 mini board pages, including the two cover pages. And every book comes in a different colour so it’s a wonderful delight my little ones.

I have personally loved these book a lot may be because of it’s simplicity and those beautiful bright colours are to die for. And I should confess that though I am a momma, I have my own favourite page/picture which I’m going to tell you about.

Both of my girls spend a lot of time staring at, switching books and eating up a few. Everything they do is because they love them a lot. In fact the Big Thing wants to have at least one of the books by her side in her bed, like she’s having two of them right now. Yeah I know it’s weird. But then I can’t help it. She likes it that way and I don’t want to upset the poor girl just for the sake of taking some pictures of those books, for this review.

Anyways, coming back to what this collection of books consists of, it has one book for vehicles, featuring road, air, water transportation. I love this page with parachute and rocket. There’s something about reach the clouds!! 😀

This is the colour book, showcasing different things having same colours. And my favourite is the one was the blue cup and saucer. How doesn’t relish their first morning cup of tea/coffee?

This mini book here has beautiful illustrations of toys like dolls, doll houses, tractors, Russian dolls etc. And my favourite is the doll house. As a child, I never had my own doll house, so a quick glance at this doll house drags me into a beautiful fairyland of my own.bo4

This one features all types of yummy and colourful fruits from apricots to mango to plum to melon. I hope the girls will be more interested in exploring/tasting new fruits after having come across so many, in this little book.

This book over here showcases a number of animals from pet to wild to huge to tall. And I love the giraffe in it because it ‘thinks’ so ‘high’! 😉

There are five more books for numbers, ABC, vegetables, food and birds.

All in all this Lovely Board Book gift set is indeed very ‘lovely’ and presentable. I recommend this collection to all you mommies and daddies who want their kids to having some fun while they learn a gazillion of things. It could easily make a wonderful gift to children between 0-3 years.

And at three years of age your child already knows almost everything pictured in here, she will still love shuffling, arranging and re-arranging them in her shelf and may just end up sleeping with one under her pillow,in no time.

And not just these books, there are a tons of wonderful books available at the Dreamland Publications . You can also follow them on Facebook so you don’t miss out any of their awesome creations, designed especially for your little one!

Nino Bambino Children’s Clothing Review

Recently we went on a little walk at a nearby pond and the hot weather in the city couldn’t be taken for granted. So just when I was deciding on which girl wears what, there came in Nino Bambino and sent us a couple of dresses for review.

And frankly I was the one who was overtly excited among the three, obviously, to dress them both in coordinating dresses is something I haven’t tried many a times. And If you have girls, you will know how much fun it is to doll them up just the way you want to see them. Having said that comfort and the child’s safety are the two things you can never overlook.

So thanks to this lovely company for sending us in the clothes. Nino Bambino ticks both the boxes, plus the quality, durability and style looks great on kids.

we received this Organic Cotton Layered Skirt from 2-3 years for the Big Thing and Organic Cotton Sleeveless Summer Dress from 9-12 months for the Little Thing.

And the best thing is that they are 100% organic, and skin-friendly. Since both of our girls have really really sensitive skin, I’m always eyeing for products that are chemical-free and especially designed for children with sensitive skin.

The big thing had a lovely time in her light-weight top and layered skirt but I literally had to struggle to put the dress on the little thing( Nevermind. She outgrows almost every dress). We also got a beautiful matching hat that protected her from sun.

I have already washed it a couple of times now and I love the way it still looks store-bought! Just like any other range of clothes these come with a few washing/ironing instructions. Also, the name tag was neatly tied up with a strong thread instead of those plastic tags.

These pretty layers of the skirt makes our skinny daughter look a little chubby, which is always a bonus!

I’m not sure words can describe just how much I LOVE these outfits already… Have you seen their new ‘Good for all seasons’ range?

So when you do have a few spare moments (I know, I know), browse around the Nino Bambino website to view all of their collections.  They’re a real treat and the “models” are sure to make you smile.  You can also keep up with Nino Bambino on their Facebook page.

And these are going on my wish list : Beautiful!

The Little Thing will remain nice and snug in this beautiful Romper in the coming winter.

We love spending time together

This last Sunday we took the girls to a nearby water body. And frankly I had never gone there before so it was our first visit. I heard of it quite a few times but taking kids along was super fun, something very different fromwhat people had told me about. The summer this year was just too harsh on us and this being the little thing’s first summer, she has her share of troubles dealing the scorching heat.

lo6{** Review of that ☝☝ dress coming soon!!}

But this evening was a pleasant one. The sun decided to remain calm and let the children enjoy their time out. Lotus Pond is actually a small water body with lush green flora and a walkway of about 1 kilometer around the pond. We decided to take a stroll with the kids.

This lovely place is in itself a beautiful little paradise for photographers. You will find almost every person there equipped with their own professional camera, excluding us. We planned this trip all of a sudden and your poor camera was out of charge so we decided it should stay home and take some rest. But next time he is definitely coming along!

This beautiful place is also an ideal for childrens’ photoshoots since the whole place is so so green and lively. And not just that this spot was made as a part of Eco-conservation project hence it is a home for a number of species of birds ranging from Pied Kingfisher to Cotton Coot to White Wagtail and shoals of fishes!

The girls loved looking at the turtles pop their heads out of the water and the goldfish played hide-and-seek with us. The Little Thing especially liked playing in the grass.

We headed back home just before the sun went to sleep, promising the kids that we shall be back very soon the next week. And for all my local readers, do take time out and head to this lovely place with your family, because it’s definitely worth it. In fact, if you go, let me know, maybe we can meet you there!haajra

Reflections: The Second Month

20140518-191400-69240589.jpgThis second month was not a very easy one to pass-by. The baby is now one month old and pretty much used to the ‘worldy’ environment.

She has gone through quite a lot, and last month she was hospitalized for jaundice for 4-5 days. Poor little girll had to go through loads of tests before coming back home. She is gaining adequate amount of weight and looks quite like a human! LOL

She try to maintain a sleep routine quite often but does not sleep for more than 3-4 hours at a stretch. I just love dressing her up in those cute baby outfits that I got as gifts from my family. Her feeding is going on well right now. And she just loves her bath-time just like her sister. And never ever cries while we are giving her a bath.

She does like sucking on to her fingers, which I hate actually. I have tried giving her a pacifier at times when she just goes out of control. She hates a wet/soiled nappy and so makes me run around the house like a ninja, every time she wants her nappy to be changed.

We are co-sleeping and the cloth diapering is also perfectly working for us. I decide to grab a few more so we have ample for both the girls, as the elder one is still to be potty trained. She has a good share of tummy-time, which I think is just too important for all those growing muscles. But the baby, literally hates it. So the maximum time she’s on her tummy is no more than 3-4 minutes.

The sister is trying to notice that the baby belongs to us and we all ought to love her. She has started caring for her little sissy and loves watching the baby move her tiny hands and feet!

I know, they are both going to grow up soon and will just learn to do things on their own. So until then the Husband and I, as new parents of two are trying to savor all these little awesome memories, so we can treasure them for the years to come!

We ❤ you!

Three years ago, around this time, we discovered we were going to have you.

You, our First. The very first addition to our little family.

You gave us the true meaning of realization, discovery and enthusiasm.

You gave me those one-of-a-kind feelings of carrying you, so close to me that I could feel every moment of yours.

You made your papa go crazy-pants noticing you move inside me.

And then one super pleasant day, you made your awesomely grand debut.

You taught us how to hold such a teeny-tiny baby for the first time.

You taught me how to feed, snuggle and comfort a newborn.

You gave us some countless ‘stay-up-with-me-all-the-while’ nights.

You brought in all the happiness and blessings that we always waited for.

We brought you home all wrapped up in our arms, safe and sound. You taught was how to wrap a little baby and welcome her home.

You have so many questions to ask us about every other thing you come across. You taught us to be patient with answering all those never ending ones.

Your papa and I spend hours together snuggling and cuddling  you, laughing and rolling with you every day, and every time we look at each other, we silently realize how blessed we are to have you around. You are a sweet little blessing.

Your cute tiny hands, feet and face taught us to appreciate God and all His amazing bounties and blessing upon us. You are an angel.

You love throwing tantrums and all those ‘I-can-mess-every-thing-up moments’. You taught us how to stay organized and well-planned.

You are hugging your Gummsy one moment and riding on the back the other. You taught us to be strict with you.

And the biggest thing is that you made us, what we are today, what we always wanted be, the parents, of You!

In a months time you will be a nursery-goer. How amazing is that!

I’m pretty sure you will teach us how remain the ‘we-are-always-proud-parents’ at every parents’ meet and at every celebration at school irrespective of your grades.

Or you’ll just let us be parents,  of YOU! And we would never ask for more!!

My Little H,
We you!
